Today in class we watched a video about how to correctly film a video. I learned that you should always film in the 3rd because it makes the video look more appealing and because your eye catches the action better if its in the 3rd. I also learned that you if you move the camera in a different position its important to keep your subject in the same area on the view finder because if you don't it makes the video look confusing on why they switched positions. You should also also manually focus your camera when your doing interviews so the camera doesn't randomly focus on other things during your interview and put your subject out of focus. When doing interviews you should always use a microphone and use headphones so you can hear the person clearly and so you know that the microphone doesn't go out during the interview.

In class we watched 6 of the everybody has a story videos. The first video I watched was about an Elephant and a Dog that were best friends even though most of the elephants and dogs don't like to interact with each other. (Hey) The story was untimely about embracing each others differences and getting past them. (You) In the story the Dog, Bella, was so connected to the Elephant that when she had a spinal cord injury and had to stay inside the elephant stayed close to the office the entire time she was inside instead of going out to play like the other elephants. Bella even lets the Elephant rub her tummy with her foot sometimes because their bond is so strong. (See) The story was trying to teach people that we should work to get past each others differences and if an elephant and a dog can do it then so can the rest of the world. (So) The other video I watched was about a lady, Susan Lee, who use to work in a school cafeteria but now cooks food in her house for other people. (Hey) She invites her friends over and members of her church in to eat for free out of the goodness of her heart. (You) She raised three kids and they all graduated from college. To pay for their tuition Susan started working in a school cafeteria and worked there for 20 years. (See) This story shows how giving back to the community helps everyone and how it can help brighten peoples days.(So)
For this projects we interviewed people about the topic we choose. I choose to do my interview about our girls Track Team. My interview lasted 9 minutes in total and she gave me really good information about why she ran track and she felt about running track while she had injury's. I filmed the interview in our schools weight room because it had a mirror in the background and because it has natural light in the room.
Our next project in class is an interview where we have to interview someone for 3-5 minutes about whatever topic we choose. In class we did a practice interview where everyone got a job in the class to plan the interview, find a location for it, and then write down some key things the person said. We filmed it outside in our schools courtyard and the interview took about 10 minutes. We learned that you shouldn't ask questions that emit only one word or short answers like yes or no questions. We also learned how to set up the camera so that the sun wasn't in the interviewers face so it didn't look like they were squinting on camera. We also learned that sometimes it takes longer to interview people to get them to open up about other topics.
For this project we told a story using only six words. For my story I used bullying as my topic and got help from a few of my friends to star in it. While filming this video I had trouble finding a good spot in our cafeteria to film without other people walking in front of the camera, so I had to film when there wasn't a lunch period. I also filmed it so the camera was in a persons point of view so it was like the person watching the video was getting bullied. While I was editing I used the black and white filter and a blue filter to make it look darker. I also used two audio tracks, one to make it seem like it was in the cafeteria and the other to add a dramatic effect to the video. I had a lot of fun with this project because we got to create our story and make it as creative as we wanted. In class we are starting a new project a Six Word Story, but before we start we researched Earnest Hemingway's famous six word story about baby's shoes. What I found was that most people thought that the baby died because it never got to wear the shoes. I thought that maybe they had to sell the baby's shoes because they needed to buy other things like food because of the depression. While I was researching I found other examples for six word stories that could help me come up with an idea for my project.
For this project we learned how to edit using Final Cut Pro. I really liked learning how to use it because it has a lot of features on it that can fix the color and add cool effects to a shot. We used transitions between every shot and put a filter on the different shots to put different perspectives on each one. We also learned how to turn up and down the volume on the shots and put music and titles over each shot.
For this project we went around the school and took shots of diffenent objects around the school. For this project we worked in partners and it was hard to get in 10 shots for the both of us because of the amount of time we had in class. While we were recording a student working on the computer the camera didn't focus on the laptop and would put extra lines on the computer so it took us a while to find a spot that was clear. We also had trouble recording a teacher because they kept moving around the room and out of view. I really liked going around the school and recording the shots because it was fun to get other people involved in the project.
The iAm Project was a project that describes you or a moment in your life. I choose to describe my personality and the things i'm pasionate about. I did run into some issues with this project with finding pictures for it because I don't keep many photos on my phone. I had to upload most of my photos from snapchat or from my computer that took a little bit of time. I also had trouble uploading my video to SchoolTube because it wouldn't process the video. Overall I thought this project was fun because it gave me a way to express myself through pictures and short videos. |
